Visitor Permit Renewal

Visitor Permit Renewal

Always maintain a legal status in Canada. The expiry date on your visitor permit tells you when you have to leave Canada. You can find the expiry date in the top right corner of your permit. This date is usually the length of your authorized stay. Apply for an extension prior to expiration as soon as possible.

Renewal Considerations

If you want to extend your stay in Canada as a visitor (stay in Canada longer), you need to apply before your current status expires. If you’re not sure when your status expires, find out how long you can stay in Canada.

If your application to extend your stay in Canada is approved, you will receive a visitor record. A visitor record:

…is a document that says how long you can stay in Canada
…includes an expiry date
…that’s the date that you must leave Canada by
…A visitor record does not guarantee entry to Canada. If you plan to travel outside Canada or the United States, you need a valid entry document to return to Canada.

Paralegals (Ontario only) must be members of the Law Society of Upper Canada. If they are not members in good standing, you should not use their services.
